Advantages of Legensilico Silicone Chocolate Molds

Article Section

High breakage rates during demolding and low-detail reconstruction are industry pain points that may trouble you in the long term. Based on polymer material modification technology and precision mold processes, Legensilico provides you with reliable and durable silicone chocolate molds.

Easy Demolding

Silicone is flexible. After the chocolate has set, you can bend or gently stretch the mold to release them. Legensilico molds feature a resilient formulation and a mirror-polish finish to reduce mold surface tension. For chocolates with deep cavities or undercut structures, it also reduces compression on the chocolate edges to improve the yield rate.

Good Detail Reproduction

It is easy to encounter blurriness or jagged edges on fine textures when reconstructing due to insufficient mold machining precision. Our CNC precision machining and liquid silicone rubber (LSR) injection molding technology retain excellent gloss and mold detail, helping you achieve clear private-label chocolate products.

Good Heat Resistance

The Si–O backbone of silicone has good thermal stability. Under temperature changes, unlike some plastics, silicone chocolate molds do not easily soften or become brittle rapidly.  The temperature resistance range extends from -40°C to 230°C, which means that some models can withstand commercial dishwashers or high-temperature disinfection cabinets

Reusable for Repeated Production

By optimizing silicone formulations and mold structures, our silicone chocolate mold is suitable for repeated molding. Increased tear strength reduces material fatigue caused by long-term bending and stretching. For continuously produced chocolate molds, it reduces deformation, further saving you the cost of frequent replacement.

How Does Silicone Help With Chocolate Demolding?

Flexible Deformation

Unlike rigid plastics such as polycarbonate (PC), silicone is a high-molecular-weight polymer with excellent elasticity. You can slightly bend or stretch the silicone chocolate mold to deform the cavity, breaking the physical bond between the mold and the chocolate surface.  Especially for deep cavities and three-dimensional shapes, this means there is no need to hammer or forcibly eject the finished product, preventing damage to delicate structures.

Thermal Shrinkage Fit

When it cools and solidifies from a liquid state, chocolate will undergo a certain degree of shrinkage. Once the temperature control process is stable, Cocoa butter forms a stable crystal to aid you in finishing demolding. If you use flexible silicone molds, silicone itself can accommodate dimensional changes in the chocolate molding.

Low Surface Energy

The silicon-oxygen bonds (Si-O-Si) within the silicone molecular chains and the pendant methyl group impart low surface energy. Cocoa butter does not easily adhere strongly to silicone molds.

Silicone Chocolate Mold vs. Other Chocolate Molds

Article Section

What is the difference between silicone chocolate molds, polycarbonate molds, and others? You can refer to the table below.

Quick Comparison Table
DimensionSilicone MoldsPolycarbonate MoldsPETG / PVC Plastic Molds
Demolding EaseHigh — Flexible mold assists demoldingMedium — Mainly relies on chocolate shrinkage for demoldingMedium — Requires extra care during demolding
Complex Shape SuitabilitySuitable for deep cavities, fine details, and some complex 3D structuresBetter suited for standard geometric shapes with wider openingsBetter suited for simple, shallow-cavity shapes
FlexibilityFlexible, bendable, and flippableRigid; not suitable for bending during demoldingDepends on the specific material and thickness
DurabilityReusable with good resistance to flexingHigh rigidity, but strong impacts or improper handling may cause crackingLong-term durability depends on material, thickness, and operating conditions
Temperature Resistance-40°C to 230°CApprox. -40°C to 120°CApprox. -40°C to 65°C

The biggest differences between these molds are the demolding methods and adaptability to complex shapes. If you want to develop chocolate products with deep-cavity structures and custom shapes, silicone chocolate molds are easier to demold by bending or inverting the mold. The polycarbonate molds with high rigidity better suit standard geometric shape products.

Silicone Chocolate Molds Selection Guide

We list the following four points to help you select suitable molds. If you are still unsure about anything, contact us for a free selection guide.

Molds Capacity

Individual cavity capacity affects the weight and size of each chocolate. Determine the size of your finished chocolate product first. Then, choose the compatible mold cavity capacity.

  • Small-capacity molds (approx. 1–10 mL/cavity): Suitable for mini chocolates, decorative chocolates, and small confections.
  • Medium-capacity molds (approx. 10–30 mL/cavity): Suitable for hemispheres and standard bite-sized chocolates.
  • Large-capacity molds (approx. 30–115 mL+/cavity): Suitable for chocolate bars, large chocolates, and 3D molded products.

If you use them for automated production, we advise you to confirm whether the mold dimensions (length, width, and height) and edge margins match the equipment to avoid affecting positioning and continuous production.

Slender structures and complex undercuts need a bigger deformation space. We can design a slight draft angle of 1°–3° in 3D molds to reduce the risk of tearing and demolding resistance.

Single Cavity vs. Multi-Cavity

Single-cavity / low-cavity molds are compact and offer you flexible handling, suitable for chocolate products with relatively large volume or complex structures. For customized gifts and prototyping for new product development, it is easier to adjust the design.

Multi-Cavity Molds are suitable for mass production. The high-density layout, such as 10×10 or 20×30 arrangements, allows you to mold more chocolates at once. Please note the runner design and wall thickness. If the mold is large, we recommend using a rigid tray or support frame to reduce deformation during handling and pouring.

Material Hardness / Shore A

Silicone hardness affects the flexibility and support capability. We recommend matching hardness to the production process you choose.

  • Soft silicone (Shore A 20–30): It has good elongation and flexibility, supporting “Inverted Demolding”. It is suitable for silicone chocolate molds with deep indentations and complex undercut structures.
  • Medium-hardness silicone (Shore A 35–45): It balances flexibility and support and is a commonly used hardness range for most silicone chocolate molds, such as standard block and hemisphere models.
  • High-hardness silicone (Shore A 45–50+): With high flexural rigidity, it does not easily deform during handling or equipment installation. You can use it in automated equipment requiring high mold support stability.

Surface Finish and Textures

Glossy Finish provides a bright luster on the surface of chocolate, enhancing the visual value of premium chocolate.  The smoother the mold cavity surface, the crisper the surface finish.

Matte / Frosted Finish gives your chocolate a soft surface texture. Some low-sugar dark chocolate and sugar-free healthy chocolate bars prefer this surface finish.

Laser Engraving & Texturing are suitable for brand customization. You can incorporate a vintage brushed texture, a leather/wood grain texture, and a brand logo and image on the inner wall to enhance brand recognition.

How Do I Clean and Maintain Silicone Chocolate Molds?

Recommend using warm water and a neutral detergent to clean daily. If there is significant cocoa butter residue, you can soak molds in warm water for a few minutes. Then, gently wipe with a soft sponge. Please avoid using steel wool or strong acid/alkaline cleaners, because they may damage the silicone surface and affect demolding performance.

After cleaning, air-dry the mold and store it in a cool, dry place. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight and contact with sharp objects.

How Do I Prevent Chocolate From Sticking to Silicone and Reduce Air Bubbles?

It mainly depends on tempering and cooling conditions. Before use, we recommend ensuring the chocolate has been properly tempered. Well-crystallized cocoa butter naturally contracts during cooling, allowing smooth demolding.  Keep the mold dry and clean, without moisture or oil content before pouring. It is important to avoid moisture, because it may cause chocolates to thicken or clump.  Control the temperature during cooling. Demold until the chocolate has completely set and contracted.

If you want to reduce air bubbles, you can gently vibrate the silicone mold after pouring in the chocolate to expel air. You can also lower the pouring height to reduce air entrapment by using a depositor or a piping bag.

When Should I Replace a Silicone Chocolate Mold?

Under proper use and maintenance, Legensilico silicone chocolate molds are reusable. But if you discover obvious cracks or tears inside the mold cavity, it should be replaced promptly. When the mold surface becomes rough/sticky or the mold release performance declines, check whether the mold has aged.

After long-term use, if silicone has permanent deformation and loses elasticity, you might consider a batch upgrade and replacement.

Can Silicone Chocolate Molds Be Used in Ovens and Dishwashers?

It depends on the specific silicone formula and mold structure. Some silicone chocolate molds can be used in dishwashers or ovens. However, high-temperature water washing and detergents may affect the mold surface. For silicone chocolate molds requiring a glossy finish, hand washing is recommended.
If you have to use molds in these devices, we can adjust the silicone formula and mold structure based on your actual operating conditions, including testing temperature, cleaning method, number of cycles, and so on, ensuring molds meet your usage requirements.
