Why Choose Silicone Measuring Cups Instead of Plastic or Glass Measuring Cups?
![]()
| Comparison Feature | Silicone Measuring Cup | Plastic Measuring Cup | Glass Measuring Cup |
| Drop Durability | Flexible; unlikely to shatter upon impact | Depends on the specific plastic formulation and design | May shatter or crack when dropped |
| Flexibility | Elastic and squeezable | Typically possesses a degree of rigidity | High rigidity |
| Temperature Resistance | Typical -40°C to +230°C (-40°F to +446°F) | Depends on the plastic type | Generally heat-resistant, but susceptible to thermal shock |
| Cleaning & Maintenance | Non-absorbent surface; easy to clean | Some materials tend to retain grease or show scratches | Smooth surface, but dried/cured residues can be hard to clean |
| Resin Application | Cured resin generally peels off easily | Depends on material compatibility and surface finish | Cleaning cured resin can be difficult |
Besides silicone, plastic and glass are the most common measuring materials on the market. During actual use, glass fragments and plastic pollution increase customer complaints and the cost of quality recalls.
Developing a silicone measuring cup not only helps you reduce customer return rates but also enhances the environmental attributes. So if you are looking for a measuring cup with easy cleaning and a flexible design, silicone is worth considering.
But note that the silicone material is relatively flexible. For high-precision chemical titration, we recommend optimizing the silicone formulation or using other rigid containers like glass cups.
Silicone Measuring Cup With Spout vs Squeeze & Pour
![]()
A silicone measuring cup with a solid spout has relatively high hardness. Cups with molded rigid spouts maintain a fixed shape during the molding process, allowing you to pour directly along the spout with a uniform flow rate. It is suitable for the rapid pouring of standard liquids like milk and water.
The “Squeeze & Pour” utilizes the flexibility of the silicone body. So the silicone hardness is softer and typically 35A–45A. When you squeeze the cup, the rim forms a more concentrated channel for the liquid to flow out. For resins, syrups, and other materials that require flow control, this design is more flexible in adjusting the size and shape of the pouring spout.
If you want to develop mass-market kitchenware, we advise you to choose measuring cups with a spout, because it is easy to operate without controlling the squeezing force. If you want to use it for manual or precision liquid pouring, the squeeze & pour one is recommended to create product differentiation.
How Does Silicone Hardness Affect Measuring Cup Performance?
![]()
The hardness of the silicone affects structural support and your user experience.
- 30A–40A (Soft): It is soft to the touch and easy to squeeze. It is important for the Squeeze & Pour measuring cup and the collapsible measuring cups. But when filled with heavy liquids, the scale reading becomes more difficult.
- 40A–50A (Medium): Measuring cups made of medium-hardness silicone balance flexibility and support. For kitchen measuring cups and everyday liquid measurement, it is a more practical choice.
- 50A–60A (High rigidity): The cup body is sturdy and thick, offering you a tactile feel close to that of hard rubber. You can use it for large-capacity measuring cups due to its high compressive strength. But the extrusion and shaping capabilities decrease accordingly.
If you are choosing the right hardness, do not look at the Shore A alone.
For large-capacity measuring cups of 500+ ml, we recommend using silicone with a hardness above 50A or incorporating a rib-reinforced design. Send your application information to us. Legensilico can help you match suitable hardness and optimize product structure.
Application Guide
Food Preparation
You can use our products to measure liquids such as water, milk, and oil. They are also suitable for tasks like melting butter or chocolate and so on. Optional food-grade silicone material offers excellent temperature resistance and can withstand dishwasher cleaning.
Laboratory Use
Based on LSR’s excellent chemical inertness and resistance to non-highly corrosive liquids, silicone measuring cups can be used for small-batch material mixing and colloid formulation. For precise liquid pouring, we recommend a pouring spout design to reduce liquid residue.
Daily Use
Preparing baby food, measuring liquids at home, and packing for camping trips all need lightweight and durable measuring tools. Silicone is drop-resistant. For use with infants and mothers, you can choose miniature/standard measuring cup with clear dual graduations.
Creative Use
For crafting applications such as epoxy resin and candle/soap making, our silicone measuring cup is convenient for mixing and pouring. We also provide blank silicone measuring cups, allowing you to create derivative works or sales bundled with DIY kits.
How to Improve Measuring Accuracy in Flexible Silicone Cups?
![]()
Silicone is flexible and elastic. So when you develop silicone measuring cups, the
structural support and scale design are important. To improve the measurement stability, you can consider optimizing the following:
- Thickened base and upright structure: At the stage of the mold design, increasing the thickness of the bottom and adding vertical reinforcing ribs on the sides deliver a flat base when placed on a level surface, making scale readings clearer.
- Use a molded-in scale design: Compared with normal surface-printed graduations, the recessed or raised molded graduations are more durable. This design reduces ink wear while preventing parallax error caused by ink thickness.
- Use dual-unit scale markings: Depending on your target market, we can design graduation marks in various units such as ml and oz. If you need higher mark consistency, we support volumetric water testing to calibrate position.
Compared with glass or hard plastic measuring cups, silicone measuring cups will deform slightly when compressed due to their self-flexibility. For a large-capacity measuring cup, Legensilico can help you control silicone hardness (40A–60A Shore A) and strengthen the structure to enhance support, ensuring stability when filled with liquid or held normally.
A silicone measuring cup with a proper design can maintain clear graduations for a long time. Legensilico supports molded-in graduation marks. The scale is molded into the cup body as one piece, reducing wear caused by frequent washing or solvent wiping.
If your scale markings on silicone measuring cups need color differentiation or brand display, we can use special silicone inks for screen printing, then verify the stability of the scale through abrasion resistance testing.
Silicone shows good chemical resistance to most common liquids like isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and medical alcohol. But if exposed to acetone or strongly polar organic solvents, it may swell or soften. So, for industrial applications, we recommend that you do compatibility testing according to the actual chemical media.
When used for resin/epoxy resin formulation, peel off after the resin cures or clean with alcohol.
Silicone measuring cups made of food-grade platinum-cured silicone usually do not leave odors or transfer colors to other liquids.
But if silicone cups are exposed to highly pigmented materials like curry and chili oil in the long term, it may lead to slight color adsorption. We recommend cleaning cups promptly after use.
The two have different uses. The silicone measuring cups are mainly used for liquid measurement, such as water and oil. They are typically equipped with markings and a flow guide spout, convenient for observing volume and controlling pouring. While the dry measuring cups are mainly used for solid materials such as flour and powdered sugar. You need to fill them, then scrape them for volumetric accuracy.
If you want to develop combination products, you can contact us for customized silicone dry measuring cups, too.
Yes, but the premise is to choose the appropriate specifications. For essential oils, pigments, resin additives, and other small-volume applications, we advise you to choose our mini silicone measuring cups (10–100 ml). If you need silicone measuring cups with a smaller size or higher precision, we recommend designing them separately based on the target capacity. Then, verify the accuracy through volumetric testing.
The blank silicone measuring cups are the unbranded products after having finished the basic molding process. They are suitable for your DIY kits or for doing secondary packaging/customized processing.
For the finished silicone measuring cups, we will add logo, color, packaging, and set combinations according to your brand needs, Suitable for direct entry into retail or wholesale channels.
You can customize silicone measuring cups by following the steps below:
- Determine cup specifications like capacity range and cup shape
